Most probably if you already have some experience with PPC Advertising, you would be familiar with the following mistakes many marketers do.

Even if you are an expert, you can still find this article helpful.

Newbie’s however will find it very useful and if they learn how to avoid the mistakes described in this article, they will never lose money from their PPC advertising campaign.

As you already know, PPC means ”PayPerClick”, so whenever your Ad is clicked, you are charged from few cents up to few dollars. This simply means that you can not use PPC just to attract people to visit your web site, because instead of making money you will lose money.

There are millions of people that just click on sponsored Ads to see the offer or even the pictures on your web site, just because they are curious and not because they are interested of what you have to offer them. So here is the first mistake: Attracting visitors to the web site using PPC.

You must not attract visitors by using PPC.

You must attract buyers by using PPC. Many of you would say, yes but in order to get buyers I must first get traffic and visitors. Totally correct because More Traffic = More Money, however there are many methods to get a lot of traffic for free.

With PPC you must attract only Buyers, and how to do this? You can do this by simply targeting your market and be very specific what you offer. Your Ad must be crystal clear. You must say with few words what you offer, what the buyer will get and how much will cost him. However this must be 100% relevant to your product. Also think about your potential buyers, where they live, what they do, what is their financial status.

To be successful with your PPC advertising you must highly target your customers. Of course there is no way not to be clicked by curious people but using the targeting method will filter down almost 80% of the curious people.

Another very important if not the most important thing is to make an extended research on your potential buyers especially if you are promoting products that are used by specific group of people. For this I will give you example that happened with me personally.

While looking for product, I found the perfect product to promote.

Due to my past professional experience I knew that it perfectly fits to a group of people with a huge market available. There were no competitors and the price was just 1% of what those people were willing to pay. So I thought that I made it.

Immediately I set up my PPC campaign targeted only to the specific country where this people live. The response was unbelievable. I spent almost $1000 in few days even though the cost per click was just 5 cent. Imagine how many clicks I got. From the first 1 hour I started getting e-mails and people were thanking me for the perfect product, they were telling me that I’ve saved their lives, etc.

I was very happy because I knew that there was a 5 day trial period for the product by just entering your e-mail and no credit card needed. So I was 100% sure that after this trial period almost all those people will pay for the product and this will put a lot of cash to my bank account. I continued my PPC advertising and spent another $1000 and then.

Day 6 – nothing,

Day 7 – nothing,

Day 8 – nothing.

On day 9, I started getting e-mails, and people asking me how they are supposed to buy my product. My first thoughts were ” Are these people stupid? ”, and I started sending replies explaining them that from the web site they can make the payment with their credit card and that’s it. Then disaster strikes… all those people were not allowed to use their credit cards for purchases over the internet due to currency export restrictions in their country.

Of course PayPal was available for them, but eventually I made just 15 sales out of more than 7000 buyers willing to buy it if it was available instantly. In order for them to pay by PayPal, they had to go personally to their bank and make application and then be approved by the ministry of Finance in order to make payment abroad. I could have avoided all this and not lose $2000 and all the time spent, if I have made better research. You may say that this is just 1 case.

However this is not just a single case.

You know that all those new computer games and cell phone applications are very hot products. OK but… 70% of the potential customers for those products are teenagers, and they will definitely click on your Ad to see the latest releases and new games that you might advertise. The teenagers are the perfect potential buyers, but we have problem again.

They do not have credit card to buy your product. Of course they may ask their parents to complete the purchase, but this will decrease the number of the potential buyers to the real buyers. Again you lose a lot of money.

These were just few examples. You definitely have to learn a lot before you start making money online.
